Summary

Bow Before Your Queen Or Bleed Before Her。。。

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L。 Armentrout comes book three in her Blood and Ash series。

She's been the victim and the survivor。。。

Poppy never dreamed she would find the love she's found with Prince Casteel。 She wants to revel in her happiness but first they must free his brother and find hers。 It's a dangerous mission and one with far-reaching consequences neither dreamed of。 Because Poppy is the Chosen, the Blessed。 The true ruler of Atlantia。 She carries the blood of the King of Gods within her。 By right the crown and the kingdom are hers。

The enemy and the warrior。。。

Poppy has only ever wanted to control her own life, not the lives of others, but now she must choose to either forsake her birthright or seize the gilded crown and become the Queen of Flesh and Fire。 But as the kingdoms' dark sins and blood-drenched secrets finally unravel, a long-forgotten power rises to pose a genuine threat。 And they will stop at nothing to ensure that the crown never sits upon Poppy's head。

A lover and heartmate。。。

But the greatest threat to them and to Atlantia is what awaits in the far west, where the Queen of Blood and Ash has her own plans, ones she has waited hundreds of years to carry out。 Poppy and Casteel must consider the impossible—travel to the Lands of the Gods and wake the King himself。 And as shocking secrets and the harshest betrayals come to light, and enemies emerge to threaten everything Poppy and Casteel have fought for, they will discover just how far they are willing to go for their people—and each other。

And now she will become Queen。。。

This was ideally a 3。5 stars for me。While I loved the first book in this series, the 2nd and 3rd book kept me wanting more。 This book starts off running with a lot of action and story happening in the first few chapters but then it hits a lull for me。 And I have found this in all 3 of her books and that is the fact that JLA likes to repeat a lot。 There were so much repetition in this book that I thought if she cut it out, we might have had 100 pages less in this book。 This book really picks up a This was ideally a 3。5 stars for me。While I loved the first book in this series, the 2nd and 3rd book kept me wanting more。 This book starts off running with a lot of action and story happening in the first few chapters but then it hits a lull for me。 And I have found this in all 3 of her books and that is the fact that JLA likes to repeat a lot。 There were so much repetition in this book that I thought if she cut it out, we might have had 100 pages less in this book。 This book really picks up at the 70% mark and after the 37th chapter。 The action from that moment is non-stop and the story really progresses。What I liked about the books;1。 How Cas was concerned about Poppy and how he let her feel like she has her agency back especially after living for years without it as a Maiden。2。 The plot twists and the revelations。 These happened so perfectly and was at enough intervals to keep me roped into the book。 3。 The action once we hit the 85% mark of the book。 Plot twists and revelations were flying out at us left, right and center at this point。 4。 The friendship growth between Kieran and Poopy。 Including seeing more of the others in the books like Vonetta, Emil, Delano。 I did have a few things that bothered me in this book,1。 The constant repeititions - For e。g almost every chapter had a reference to Ian and how he is her brother who is Ascended but maybe he retains some of his personality, Miss Willa's journal, Poppy's habit of asking questions, Casteel using every synonym in the dictionary to show how much he loves Poppy, how special Poppy is, how the Unseen are not happy with Poppy, how the wolven answer to her。 Basically almost everything is repeated often。 Makes me wonder if she cut out the repetition in FBAA and TKOFAF and TCOGB, would this book have ended in a trilogy。 2。 The use of modern day slang phrases by someone who is 200+ years old。 "Totally" "No shit" "Are you for real?" Like how are these modern day slang phrases being used by these old, close to ancient creatures。 3。 Casteel acting like a lovestruck teen when it comes to ruling the kingdom too。 Through out the book, whether they are with his parents, friends of even the council elders, he can't help but hint or tell her that he is ready to f*** her。 In fact, in the (view spoiler)[ scene with Queen Ileana or Isbeth where he is begging for Poppy to be saved , he was willing to give up the whole kingdom for her。 While I understand their love, what happened to putting the kingdom first。 (hide spoiler)]I had to constantly remind myself that I loved the plot of this book to not keep it down but unlike the first two books, I had to push myself to read it。 I did at one point in the middle of the back think of DNFing this book but I did not and I have to admit the ending was stellar。 The last scene in this book was not only badass but left on a cliffhanger that left me wanting for me。 JLA does definitely know how to write endings, that makes you forget the info-dump and the repetition and any thing that would make you second guess picking it up again。 。。。more

Dammmmn!!!! That would as epic! Not only did I get 15% of the way through and go。。。 well shit this isn't going how I expected but then the entire book kept surprising and exciting me。 Jen knows how to create a wicked story with unpredictable twists and turns, not afraid to cause some heartache to make the story more real。 On a bonus side I already kind of liked Kieran but this book made me LOVE him and showed more of him than the previous books。 Loved it! I feel like it wasn’t as good as the others。 Some parts were kinda boring but overall, it was still good。 I feel like there were way less sex scenes compared to the other books but the spice is still good。

Omfg I can’t write a proper review right now because it’s one of the best ending I’ve read in a long time。 The 3rd book is WAY better than the second one (and I liked the second one)。 How can I wait for JLA to release the next one ??Tbh this review is probably going to be a summary of the book because I won’t remember half of it next March

Rating: 3。5 stars (however leaning closer to 4 stars)This book was better than the second book but not as good as the first book。There was finally more action and actual plot building in this book and not just fucking every 2 chapters, but I still found the plot a bit slow。 To be quite honest, there are a couple of times where I found Poppy quite annoying and repetitive with her thoughts and actions。 However, all the other characters make up for it。 Casteel, Kieran, Emil, Delano and Vonetta are Rating: 3。5 stars (however leaning closer to 4 stars)This book was better than the second book but not as good as the first book。There was finally more action and actual plot building in this book and not just fucking every 2 chapters, but I still found the plot a bit slow。 To be quite honest, there are a couple of times where I found Poppy quite annoying and repetitive with her thoughts and actions。 However, all the other characters make up for it。 Casteel, Kieran, Emil, Delano and Vonetta are such great character omg。 Even though most of them are side characters, they are so entertaining and I just love them。There were definitely a lot more intense and nerve wrecking moments in this book compared to the last, however, at the end of the day the overall the book still kind of fell flat。 But I am excited for the next book due to how this one ended。 Hopefully the next book picks up the pace。 。。。more

I've really enjoyed this series, however I believe I could have done without all the ridiculous love making/sex in this last book。 In the first 2 she was the maiden and as such pure, well we get it, not any more! I'm disappointed in the author having had a great story of female empowerment and strength and then ladens it with sex (not necessary)! Also, I thought this was the last in a trilogy but its not and now I will have to wait another year to see how it ends。 I've really enjoyed this series, however I believe I could have done without all the ridiculous love making/sex in this last book。 In the first 2 she was the maiden and as such pure, well we get it, not any more! This book was absolutely painful to get through。 The first 100 pages were really great and I was thoroughly entertained。 Granted, decently confused, but definitely entertained。 The following 360 pages made me want to gouge my eyes out。 I've never DNFed a book before and honestly thought that this one was going to be my first。 I had to force myself to get through it and I complained to anyone and everyone who would even half-listen to me angrily express my grievances。 At around the halfway mark, This book was absolutely painful to get through。 The first 100 pages were really great and I was thoroughly entertained。 Granted, decently confused, but definitely entertained。 The following 360 pages made me want to gouge my eyes out。 I've never DNFed a book before and honestly thought that this one was going to be my first。 I had to force myself to get through it and I complained to anyone and everyone who would even half-listen to me angrily express my grievances。 At around the halfway mark, I started only reading dialogue because I just wanted to be done already。 The last 100 pages of the book improved dramatically and annoyingly made me forget how angry I was。 But that doesn't change the fact that this book was a bullshit installment to the series。 There was, quite literally, no plot。 If you asked me to give you a summary of the book, I wouldn't be able to tell you anything outside of the vague character development that took place。 Which is fine in theory, I'm all for books with little to no plot that center around the character's development and growth。 I eat that up。 The issue here is that the character development was garbage outside of (I guess) Poppy's。 It was clear that this book was largely centered around strengthening Poppy and Kieran's friendship, similar to how AKOFAF was Poppy+Casteel centric。 So this would lead you to assume Casteel's development would be more individual, right? Wrong。 It seemed as though the only reason Casteel was given any form of emotional depth was so that Poppy would be able to gain some in return。 Casteel would be going on a whole monologue about his emotions, and yet these instances were clearly only there to 1) establish Poppy as sympathetic and 2) give a situation in which Poppy would be able to express her feelings with words, so the audience can get a better understanding of her。 Because who else is she going to explicitly share her feelings with, other than Casteel? The same can be said about Kieran's development。 It's clear that the only reason their friendship was explored was to give Poppy someone in her life other than Casteel (co-dependent much?)。 Casteel's character only exists in this story to bang Poppy and give her an emotional outlet so the audience can understand her better。 Kieran's character only exists to be a friend to Poppy, and he has no other storyline outside of that。 3/3 of the primary characters in this story have a development that is Poppy-centric and it resulted in a lack of personality and individuality in both Kieran and Casteel。 This was extremely upsetting in Casteel's case。 Essentially all of the essence of his character was lost and replaced by repetitive banter and cringey words of affirmation。 So much of Poppy and Casteel's dynamic was lost now that they're in a loving relationship。 The only banter between them consists of repeating dialogue surrounding Poppy being violent and Casteel being demented because he's into it and teasing Poppy about Ms。 Willa's diary。 That's it。 The same thing goes for Poppy's interactions with Kieran。 He teases her about her always asking questions entirely too much。 Like, seriously? That's all you can come up with? It felt as though JLA grasped at minuscule interactions characters had from the previous book and decided to capitalize on them because she had no other idea on how to develop character relations in a new way。 Might I add, every single time Poppy meets a new character, the interaction goes the exact same way。 'Oh, I wonder if they're Atlantian。 Oh, they called Casteel 'Cas'? I wonder if they're friends。 Oh look, here is my time to make a snarky comment。 The stranger laughed at my comment and told Casteel "Oh, I like this girl"。 They have now gained the ability to call me Penelaphe'。 Every。 Single。 Time。The repetitiveness is present throughout the entire novel, in every aspect of it, and it's infuriating。 Poppy's internal monologue is the worst with it。 Literally every time Vikter gets brought up, the same phrase is copy and pasted into the discussion。 She constantly recounts past world-building because the world is so unnecessarily complicated as is。 We spend so much of the book inside her head and yet, Poppy has no personality outside of her interactions with others。 Majority of her internal dialogue focuses on lore and breaking the world-building down, but it is still so insanely complicated for no reason what so ever。 I'm a firm believer that the best fantasy realms are explored from a clean-slate standpoint。 Take Avatar: The Last Airbender, for example。 This take allows the world to be buildable and moldable without being extremely limiting。 This is where JLA misses the mark。 The FBAA world is honestly just complicated for the sake of adding depth, not because any of the details are actually vital。 The audience is constantly info-dumped with new knowledge of the politics of Atlantia at an extremely slow pace, so there is need for constant reminders on previous info-dumps。 The book wouldn't be so repetitive if the world was less complicated。The exact same conflicts also reoccur throughout the series。 The overarching conflict of the series is the impending war between Atlantia and Solis, but there is no specific conflict for each book。 The war is too far out and not something that is going to happen immediately, especially in an anticipated 6-book long series。 Because of this, a book-specific conflict is necessary。 One that will be resolved at the end of the book and leaves the reader satisfied。 That is not the case in this series。 The entire book I had no idea where it was even going。 Each conflict presented is minor and is clearly included for the sole purpose of either further developing Poppy through her emotions or through her powers。 That's it。 There is no overarching conflict specific to this book and it leaves you reading a TON of filler。 From the bottom of my heart, this book should have been combined with AKOFAF。 They're exactly the same: Start the book exactly where the last major plot twist occurred and confusingly resolve it, a shit tone of filler, repeating conflicts, and complicated info-dumping, Poppy and Casteel spice scenes, the Joining tease, and close it off with another huge open ended plot twist。 Each book is simply setting you up for the next one and is not its own piece of work blended into the world。 Finally, I have some criticisms on the handling of Poppy, Kieran, and Tawny。 Poppy is hyper-violent and over-sexualized in her relationship with Casteel。 These are not inherently bad traits to a character, yet it becomes an issue when you take into consideration her infantilization within the series in terms of her knowledge。 She's been extremely sheltered her entire life and thus does not know anything about the realities of the world around her。 Casteel has acted as an outlet for learning experiences within the story, so everything she knows is tied to him, both sexually and politically。 Because of this, there needs to be more nuance to their sexual interactions。 The sexually explicit nature of their relationship fails to address the inherent power imbalance through their difference in levels of experience。 Casteel is the only person Poppy has ever been with in any sense and he has centuries of experience on her。 They address this in this book yet, Casteel continues to over-sexualize her, further proving one of the only reasons he's there in the first place is to provide a level spiciness to the series。 Maybe I'm reaching, but it still feels like there's a disconnect that needs to be resolved。 In Kieran and Tawny's case, I am deeply disappointed by JLA's choice of their names。 They are two canonically black characters and you, a white woman, found it appropriate to name them names that literally mean black and brown? Wtf? There's even a point towards the beginning of this book where JLA uses "tawny" to describe Kieran's skin。 Do better。 I will be reading the fourth book once it comes out next year, but if it's a repeat of this, I will be abandoning the series。 。。。more

A lot of info dumps and several repetitive inner dialogue stuff made the book drag a bit。 World building didn’t feel cohesive with the first book。 However, I still found it all hugely entertaining。 Looking forward to book 4。

This book was less predictable than the previous ones, I liked that, but still found it kind of boring most of the time。 The start and the end were the best parts and even those were not that good。 Hopefully next book will be a lot better。

So this book was not bad, per se。 However, there is no content until th last 15-20% of the book。 The beginning is just mindless conversation, romantic cheesy moments。 No plot development until you reach the end。

Great readAlthough I didn’t love book 3 as much as the first two, it was still a fantastic read。 Book 3 had a TON of world building。 I wasn’t a big fan of that although I do realize it was necessary to tell the story。 If I’m honest I skimmed a lot of pages due to the excessive detail ☹️

Very exciting beginning and ending but the middle was very slow。 Not as good as the first 2 books but has me excited for the 4th。 JLA does a great job of tying up loose ends that she’s been threading through the story since FBAA, and it’s crazy that there are still questions from book 1 that we’re waiting patiently to have answered (who exactly was present the night of the craven attack!?)。

I have to say the endings are the best part and they keep getting better。 Although they aren’t really endings but cliffhangers。 I’m still not a fan of the way she releases world building information。 The world is great and the storyline is getting better but slightly ridiculous。 Remember when you were a kid playing action figures with your friend and you would be like “my guy has super speed and can kill your guy” and then your friend would be like “well my guy have a force field”then “ well my I have to say the endings are the best part and they keep getting better。 Although they aren’t really endings but cliffhangers。 I’m still not a fan of the way she releases world building information。 The world is great and the storyline is getting better but slightly ridiculous。 Remember when you were a kid playing action figures with your friend and you would be like “my guy has super speed and can kill your guy” and then your friend would be like “well my guy have a force field”then “ well my guy has forced field penetrating weapons” and then “well my guy can breathe fire to melt your weapons”?
